District Court Upholds Order to Demolish Sanjauli Mosque Structure in Shimla

Shimla – In a significant development, the district court in Shimla on Thursday upheld the decision of the municipal commissioner’s court to demolish the entire structure of the Sanjauli mosque. The court dismissed the plea filed by the Himachal Pradesh Waqf Board and the Sanjauli Mosque Committee challenging the earlier demolition order.

Authorities had already begun implementing the earlier court directive to demolish three floors of the five-storey building. However, the Sanjauli Mosque Committee had moved the court against the May 3 order of the municipal commissioner that directed the demolition of the remaining two floors as well.

With the district court now affirming the commissioner’s order, the entire structure of the mosque located in the Sanjauli locality of Shimla is set to be razed.

The decision marks the culmination of a prolonged legal battle between the civic authorities and the mosque committee over alleged violations of building norms. Local administration is expected to proceed with the demolition in accordance with the court’s ruling.
