Chief Secretary Issues Instructions to Take Special Precautions Regarding Electrical Appliances in Haryana Civil Secretariat
Government Issues Advisory to Protect from Heatwave
Chandigarh, 27 May – Haryana Chief Secretary Sh. TVSSN Prasad has instructed officers and employees of Haryana Civil Secretariat to take special precautions regarding electrical appliances, especially AC, coolers and fans, in view of the summer season.
In a letter written by the Chief Secretary’s office to all branch heads, it has been said that during the inspection, many electrical appliances such as tube lights, UPS, wall fans, pedestal fans, ceiling fans and air conditioners were found running. Due to such negligence, electricity is being wasted, which can lead to increase in electricity bills as well as damage to electrical appliances. Along with this, there is also a possibility of fire.
Therefore, officers and employees should ensure that all electricity points are switched off before leaving the office or when not in use. It is their moral responsibility and the branch heads will be responsible for any negligence.
In addition, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department has also issued an advisory to prevent heatstroke. The advisory states that the risk of heatstroke increases during the summer season due to hot air waves and rising temperatures. In such a situation, those who roam in the sun, players, children, elderly and sick people are more at risk of heatstroke. It is better to prevent heatstroke than to treat it. Therefore, the general public is urged to follow the advisory issued by the government and stay away from heatstroke.
To prevent heatstroke:
- Listen to the radio, watch TV, read newspapers for local weather news.
- Wear light-colored loose cotton clothes in summers, keep your head covered, use clothes, hat or umbrella.
- Drink plenty of water even if you are not thirsty.
- Consume ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemonade, buttermilk etc. to stay fresh.
- Do not leave children in vehicles. This can put them at risk of heatstroke.
- Do not go barefoot outside, keep a hand fan with you for relief from heat, take short breaks in between work, if you are working in fields, take shelter under a tree or shade from time to time.
- Do not consume junk food during summers. Eat fresh fruits, salads and home-cooked food.
- Avoid direct sunlight between 12 noon and 4 pm.
- If the child has dizziness, vomiting, nervousness or severe headache, chest pain or difficulty in breathing, then show it to the doctor.
The advisory states that special care should be taken of the elderly and weak in the increasing heat. Check them at least twice a day in the scorching heat, especially when they are alone. Make sure they have a phone. If they are feeling uncomfortable due to the heat, try to give them some coolness. Keep their body wet, bathe them or keep a wet towel on their neck and armpits. Call a doctor or ambulance along with cooling the body. Ask them to keep a water bottle with them at all times.
The advisory states that animals should be kept in the shade and given plenty of water. Keep them indoors, keep two bowls of water so that they can drink water from the other when one bowl is empty. If it is not possible to keep them indoors, then keep them in a shady place where they can rest. Make sure there is shade throughout the day where they are kept. Do not keep your pet food in the sun, do not keep animals in a closed place, if you have a dog, do not walk it in the heat. Walk them in the morning and evening. Do not walk the dog on hot surfaces (tracks, asphalt roads, hot sand). Do not leave the animal in a vehicle under any circumstances.
