Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed concerns regarding 121 families facing displacement due to a recent High Court directive linked to land and settlement regulations in Shimla. The families, living in areas marked as encroachments, had approached the government seeking urgent relief and clarity on their future.
Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said that the government is making every effort to ensure that no family is uprooted without alternative arrangements. He emphasized that while the administration is obligated to comply with judicial orders, it is equally committed to safeguarding the interests of residents who have lived in these areas for decades. Officials have been instructed to survey the affected zones and prepare a rehabilitation roadmap.
The CM highlighted that Himachal’s topography and settlement patterns make land disputes a recurring challenge. He reiterated that the government’s aim is not to evict people abruptly but to implement a lawful and humane solution. The issue has generated emotional public reactions, with many families fearing the loss of homes built over generations.
Opposition members alleged that the situation reflects years of policy mismanagement and demanded a long-term settlement plan for similar cases across the state. The CM, however, maintained that the government is moving with sensitivity and will soon present a structured proposal to prevent hardship for affected residents.
