Himachal Pradesh Leads the Way in Green Energy and Sustainable Governance: UNDP Lauds State’s Initiatives



Shimla,  – Himachal Pradesh continues to set an inspiring example for other states in the field of green development, renewable energy, and climate resilience. The state government has announced incentives of up to four percent for setting up ground-mounted solar energy projects ranging from 100 kW to 2 MW — with special provisions for both tribal and non-tribal areas.

Highlighting the state’s pioneering initiatives, officials stated that Himachal Pradesh has become the first hill state in the country to adopt a comprehensive **Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy**, demonstrating a strong commitment to clean energy transition. The ambitious target aims to **fully electrify public transport by 2030**, significantly contributing to India’s national green energy goals.

During the meeting, Department Secretary **Sushil Kumar Singla** presented detailed insights into the progress report, outlining key areas of implementation and future expansion under the state’s sustainable energy roadmap.

UNDP Senior Economist Amy Mishra made a comprehensive presentation on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report, emphasizing Himachal Pradesh’s achievements in promoting climate-sensitive budgeting and decentralized governance.

UNDP Representative Dr. Angela Lusigi praised Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s leadership for advancing green budgeting, sustainable development programmes, and participatory governance, which are crucial in building long-term resilience against climate change.

The meeting was also attended by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvendra Goma, Chairman of the 7th State Finance Commission Nand Lal, MLAs Suresh Kumar and Malendra Rajan, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, Principal Secretary (Finance) Devesh Kumar, and several senior government officials.
