Kulbhushan Verma Assumes Charge as Kangra SP, Focuses on Traffic Management and Anti-Drug Drive

Dharamshala (Arvind Sharma) |

IPS officer Kulbhushan Verma on Wednesday assumed charge as the Superintendent of Police (SP), Kangra, at Dharamshala. Soon after taking over, he identified traffic congestion and drug abuse as two key challenges facing the district.

Addressing the media, Verma said Kangra is the largest district in Himachal Pradesh and attracts the highest number of tourists. Besides McLeodganj, religious destinations and sporting events draw large crowds throughout the year, putting considerable pressure on the road network.

He said the police department would take effective measures to streamline traffic management and ensure that tourists and local residents face minimal inconvenience. Additional police personnel will be deployed at congestion-prone locations whenever required, he added.

Verma also emphasized that the state government’s ongoing Anti-Chitta Campaign against synthetic drugs would be strengthened further, with strict action against those involved in drug trafficking and abuse.

Prior to his new assignment, Verma was serving as SP of the Nurpur Police District. He succeeds 2017-batch IPS officer Ashok Rattan, who has been transferred as SP (Leave Reserve), Shimla. In addition to his responsibilities as Kangra SP, Verma will also hold the additional charge of SP, Special Task Force (STF), Dharamshala Zone.
