Major Crackdown by Nurpur Police: 1.345 kg Charas Seized from Car, Two Arrested

In a major success against drug trafficking, the CIA team of Nurpur Police District in Kangra recovered 1.345 kilograms of charas (hashish) from a car during a special naka (checkpoint) operation near Harad Bridge and arrested two persons allegedly involved in narcotics smuggling.

The arrested accused have been identified as:

1. Ashwani Kumar (38), son of Prakash Chand, a resident of Village Bhali, Post Office Bhali, Tehsil Jawali, District Kangra.

2. Sunil Rana alias Ishu (29), son of Jagroop Singh, a resident of Village Sahwan, Post Office Sahwan, Tehsil Shahpur, District Kangra.

Providing details of the operation, Kulbhushan Verma, Superintendent of Police, Nurpur, said that the CIA team was conducting a special checking operation near Harad Bridge when it received a confidential tip-off regarding suspicious activities. Acting swiftly on the information, the police intercepted and searched an Alto car (HP40A-7048) that had been parked along the roadside.

During the search, conducted in accordance with legal procedures and in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered a black plastic packet concealed beneath the driver’s seat. Upon examination, the packet was found to contain 1.345 kilograms of charas.

The contraband was immediately seized, and the vehicle used for transportation of the narcotics was taken into police custody. Both accused were arrested on the spot.

A case has been registered at Nurpur Police Station under Sections 20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

SP Kulbhushan Verma stated that further investigations are underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify other individuals linked to the drug trafficking network.
