Nana Patekar’s Last Rites to Be Held at Pune Farmhouse With State Honours

The final journey of veteran actor Nana Patekar will take place at his farmhouse in Donje, on the outskirts of Pune, on Thursday evening, following his death earlier in the day.

Patekar, 76, died at his residence in Goa in the early hours of Thursday, bringing an end to the life and career of one of Indian cinema’s most distinctive and respected performers.

According to Ganesh Thorat, CEO of Patekar’s Naam Foundation, the actor’s mortal remains are expected to reach Pune at around 5 pm. His body will subsequently be kept at the farmhouse for people to pay their final respects before the cremation.

“The final rites will be conducted on the farmhouse premises,” Thorat said, adding that the cremation will be carried out with state honours.

The Donje farmhouse, located away from the bustle of Pune city, will thus become the setting for the actor’s final farewell. The arrangements are expected to bring together family members, friends, colleagues from the film industry and people associated with his social initiatives.

Born Vishwanath Patekar into a Marathi family in Murud-Janjira in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, Nana Patekar built a formidable reputation through performances marked by intensity, restraint and an unmistakable screen presence. Over several decades, he established himself as an actor capable of moving effortlessly between powerful dramatic roles, socially rooted characters and memorable mainstream performances.

Beyond cinema, Patekar was also closely associated with social causes. His Naam Foundation, which he helped establish to work primarily on water conservation and rural development, became an important part of his public life. The organisation has worked on initiatives aimed at supporting drought-affected communities and improving water availability in rural Maharashtra.

Patekar is survived by his wife and son, Malhar Patekar.

As news of his death spread, tributes poured in from across the film fraternity and beyond, reflecting the impact of an actor whose career extended far beyond conventional Bollywood stardom. His final rites at his Pune farmhouse will mark the end of an era for one of Maharashtra’s most recognisable and influential cinematic personalities.
