Individuals facing serious charges, particularly in drug-related cases, may now be barred from participating in Panchayat polls. The move is aimed at ensuring cleaner and more accountable grassroots governance.
In addition, the government has proposed measures to tackle issues such as financial mismanagement, encroachments, and conflicts of interest within Panchayati institutions. These reforms are expected to strengthen transparency and improve the functioning of local bodies.
To address the recurring issue of low attendance in Gram Sabha meetings, the government has decided to relax quorum requirements. Officials believe that this change will prevent delays in decision-making and ensure timely execution of development projects at the village level.
On the infrastructure front, the government reiterated its commitment to expanding key projects, including the Kangra airport expansion. Authorities indicated that land acquisition for the project is progressing, with significant compensation already disbursed to landowners. The government also signaled stricter monitoring of rural road projects under national schemes, warning that contractors may face action, including cancellation of contracts, for delays or substandard work. This reflects a renewed emphasis on quality and timely delivery of infrastructure projects.
In the education sector, the state may seek relaxation in recruitment norms for nursery teachers due to a shortage of eligible candidates, indicating a pragmatic approach to addressing staffing gaps.
