CM Sukhu Announces Rs. 27 Crore Development Package for Chopal

Shimla: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced the release of Rs. 27 crore for a range of development projects in the Chopal Assembly constituency of Shimla district, giving a fresh push to infrastructure and public facilities in the region.

The funding covers projects aimed at strengthening administrative infrastructure, improving road connectivity, expanding water and dairy-related facilities and addressing the development needs of people in Chopal, Nerwa and Kupvi.

Under the package, Rs. 2 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a joint office building at Nerwa, while another Rs. 3 crore has been earmarked for a joint office building at Chopal. Kupvi will receive Rs. 2 crore for its proposed joint office building.

The government has also allocated Rs. 2 crore for establishing a milk chilling plant at Nerwa. The facility is expected to strengthen local dairy-related infrastructure and provide greater support to milk producers in the area.

Connectivity has received significant attention under the package. The Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs. 4 crore for the Nerwa bypass, while Rs. 12 crore has been allocated for the Lakhawati Bridge. Another Rs. 2 crore has been sanctioned for the Chhawala-Chopal water supply scheme.

The announcements are being viewed as an important boost to development activity in one of Shimla district’s geographically challenging areas, where better road connectivity, administrative facilities and basic infrastructure can have a direct impact on the daily lives of residents.

Congress leader from Chopal Rajneesh Kimta, HPMC Vice Chairman Surendra Sharma and former Chopal Nagar Panchayat President Chandra Mohan thanked Chief Minister Sukhu for making funds available for the projects.

They said the financial allocation would accelerate several long-pending development activities and help improve public services and infrastructure. According to them, improved connectivity and facilities would also help residents save both time and money while making everyday travel and access to government services more convenient.

Kimta, Sharma and Chandra Mohan, along with Congress workers, had recently met the Chief Minister and sought adequate financial support for the projects. The latest release follows those representations and is expected to provide momentum to their execution.

The announcement underlines the state government’s emphasis on strengthening infrastructure at the local level while responding to the development priorities raised by residents and local representatives.
