Counter Intelligence team uncovers suspected supply chain; investigators probing the accused’s links to suppliers and downstream distributors across Punjab
Amritsar: In a significant action against drug trafficking, the Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police has dismantled a suspected heroin smuggling network in Amritsar, arresting two alleged members of the operation and recovering 5 kg of heroin.
According to Punjab Police, preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were sourcing heroin consignments from unidentified associates and subsequently distributing the contraband to other recipients in different parts of Punjab. The recovery has prompted investigators to examine the network’s supply channels and identify those allegedly coordinating the movement and distribution of the drugs.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. Further investigation is in progress to trace both the backward and forward links of the suspected operation, establish the identity of the suppliers and intended recipients, and determine whether more individuals were involved.
The police are also working to establish the wider reach of the network and identify the channels through which the heroin was being brought into the state’s illicit drug supply chain.
Punjab Police said the operation was part of its continuing efforts to target organised narcotics trafficking and disrupt networks involved in the distribution of illegal drugs. The investigation is expected to focus on uncovering the full chain of connections rather than limiting action to the two arrests and the seizure.
The latest recovery underscores the continuing challenge of drug trafficking in Punjab, where enforcement agencies are pursuing both local distributors and wider supply networks. Police said their objective remains to dismantle such operations and strengthen efforts towards a safer, drug-free Punjab.
