The state government has also extended substantial financial aid to families directly affected by military casualties. An amount of Rs 7.62 crore has been granted to 57 dependents of defense personnel who were either martyred in action or sustained disabilities while serving the nation. Additionally, Rs 20.83 lakh has been distributed among 154 beneficiaries under the War Jagir scheme, continuing the government’s long-standing support initiatives for veterans and their families.
Highlighting efforts to inspire the next generation, the Chief Minister announced a budget allocation of Rs 2.28 crore for organizing Army recruitment rallies across Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur, and Shimla districts. The initiative aims to cultivate patriotism among youth and provide structured opportunities for those aspiring to join the armed forces.
Speaking about Himachal Pradesh’s distinguished military legacy, the Chief Minister noted with pride that the small hill state is home to four Param Vir Chakra awardees, a rare and remarkable achievement. He remarked that the courage and sacrifice demonstrated by Himachali soldiers reflect their profound sense of duty and unwavering patriotism.
Looking ahead, the government has earmarked Rs 10.26 crore for the financial year 2025–26 to strengthen and expand the Major Somnath Training Academy located at Barchhwar in Mandi district. The academy plays a critical role in preparing young aspirants for recruitment into the armed forces by offering structured, high-quality training programs designed to enhance their competitiveness.
Reiterating his administration’s long-term vision, Chief Minister Sukhu stated that the government remains fully committed to expanding welfare measures for ex-servicemen and their families. He emphasized that honoring their sacrifices goes beyond ceremonial recognition and must translate into sustained financial support, institutional strengthening, and meaningful policy initiatives that ensure dignity and security for those who have served the nation.
