Farmers Block Railway Tracks in Shambhu, Punjab Amidst Intensifying Protests

Amidst escalating tensions and mounting pressure on the government, farmers at the Shambhu border in Punjab have declared their intention to block railway tracks as part of their ongoing agitation. Responding to the calls from the Joint Farmers Front and the Farmers Labor Front, protesters gathered at the railway tracks, announcing plans to stage an indefinite rail roko agitation starting at noon.

As the farmers advanced towards the railway tracks to enforce the blockade, clashes erupted between the police and the protesters stationed at the Shambhu railway station. In a bid to thwart the farmers’ attempts, Punjab Police personnel were deployed at the station, leading to a tense standoff between the two sides. However, despite police resistance, the farmers managed to breach the barricades and occupied the railway tracks at the Shambhu railway station.

Driven by the demands put forth by the Joint Farmers Front and the Farmers Labor Front, protesting farmers settled into a dharna on the railway tracks, demanding the fulfillment of their long-standing grievances. Breaking through the barriers erected by the police, the farmers defiantly occupied the Shambhu railway station, effectively disrupting train services in the region.

The farmers’ decision to intensify their agitation comes in the wake of their dissatisfaction with the government’s response to their demands. With negotiations at an impasse, the farmers have resolved to maintain the blockade until their demands are met. In a show of solidarity and determination, the farmers have vowed to continue the rail roko agitation until their brethren are released from custody.

Expressing their resolve to escalate the protests if their demands are not addressed, the farmers have issued a stern warning to the government. Should the authorities fail to accede to their demands, the farmers have threatened to expand the blockade to encompass the Chandigarh highway and other railway tracks across Punjab.

As tensions escalate and the standoff continues, the railway tracks at the Shambhu border remain occupied by determined farmers, underscoring the gravity of their grievances and the urgency for resolution. With the specter of further disruptions looming large, the government faces mounting pressure to engage in meaningful dialogue and address the farmers’ concerns.
